The 12 Tables of ROMA

By order of the Emperor Julian Augustus these are the laws of conduct for all those who visit the ROMA estate. Those who trespass the laws of the Emperor will be subject to exile or fine. The term "ROMA" designates the entire estate, not simply the sim named ROMA.

I The Estate
ROMA is a PRIVATE estate. It is open to the public but it is a private estate. Respect must be paid to the sim owner, Torin Golding, and the Emperor, Julian Augustus, whose home this is. Respect must also be shown to all Estate Managers - Angelia Rees, MajorMatt Matfield, and Tonina Rodenberger. Failure to respect the authorities of the sim is a banishable offense.

II Respect
All are welcome and respect must be paid to all. ROMA is a safe, nondiscriminatory zone. No hatespeech or verbal harassment is tolerated.

III Combat
Absolutely no guns or Orbiters are allowed. Combat may only occur between willing combatants in the Arena, or on resident plots in the Subura or Ostia where the renter has given express permission for combat. Other lands' combat and roleplay meters must be removed upon entering the estate.

IV Adult Activity
ROMA is a "Moderate" rated estate, not "Adult". Therefore "Adult" behavior, as classified by LL, is not allowed. Please keep all adult activity confined to private Subura residences. If you are not a resident of Subura, adult activity is not allowed in any public space on any of the ROMA sims. Adult activity includes master/slave sexual roleplay.

Full human or human-like avatar nudity is also forbidden in ROMA except for in the ROMA Hot Springs facility in the ROMA Transtiberim sim. This full nudity ban includes the Baths of Caracalla. Partial nudity (toplessness) is accepted in ROMA, but unless one is partaking of the Hot Springs or inside on a privately rented plot, genitals must be covered at all times. This is in the interest of public harmony and making ROMA a welcoming environment for all. Furthermore, though acceptable, toplessness is not a license for adult activity.

V Roleplay
Roleplay is welcome but not required. Please see the ROMA Roleplay Rules (available in the Customs House or at romacitizens.com/roleplay.html) for restrictions. Roleplay does not confer any special rights, and roleplay that is in violation of the Twelve Tables is a banishable offense.

VI Behavior
No visitor may hinder or impede the experience of ROMA for any other visitor. This includes visitors who do not wish to roleplay.

VII Titles and Display Names
All roleplay titles (Milites, Guard, Centurion, Senator, Flaminia, etc) confer no real authority in the estate. No citizen should assume any authority. The only exceptions are officers in offiical subgroups and citizen-run groups which hold authority over members within their groups. Titles with authority in ROMA will be written in capital letters and include IMPERATOR, PREFECT, PONTIFEX MAXIMUS, TRIBUNE (within the Subura sim), ROMA ESTATE MANAGER, and CONSUL.

Please respect the already established rules and positions in ROMA but not using the following Display Names (except use by the original owners): Julian Augustus, Torin Golding, Angelia Rees, MajorMatt Matfield, and Tonina Rodenberger. This includes all variants including capitals and the use of numbers and symbols. Also do not impersonate another Citizen with the use of a Display Name while in ROMA. Offenders will assume to be using the Display Names feature for nefarious purposes and will be banned.

Unless you are one of the 254 who have the heritage last name "Augustus" as part of your username, it is not allowed as a Display Name when inside ROMA except by the Prefect or estate managers. The Emperor may grant its use inside ROMA.

Display Names suggesting membership in a roleplay family of which you do not officially belong will result in banishment.

VIII Citizen-Run Groups
If any citizen wishes to start a group based in ROMA, they must FIRST get written clearance from the Emperor. In order to be affiliated, you must abide by a specific list of rules which the Emperor will provide you. Failure to do this, or to comply, will result in a ban.

IX Events
If any citizen wishes to hold an event in one of the ROMA sims, they must FIRST get written clearance from the Emperor. This should be done at least a week in advance of the event. Events that break any of the Twelve Tables rules will not be allowed. Outside commercial events will probably not be allowed.

Subura, Ostia, Insula, Atalante, and Maritima renters are always allowed to use their plots for events without prior clearance from the emperor.

X Griefing
Guildelines for resisting griefing are available in the Procurator's Office in ROMA Urbs. Citizens should not retaliate against any greifer and instead report it in the manner described in the notecard. Griefing will not be tolerated in ROMA.

XI Ethics and Privacy
No newbie targeting is allowed. No scamming is allowed. No unethical activity is allowed. No stalking is allowed. If you cannot act honorably, Torin and the Emperor will boot you. (Or the Estate Managers will under the Emperor's authourity.) This is not a democracy, it is a benevolent dictatorship.

ROMA respects the real-life privacy of all of its Citizens. ROMA has an absolute non-disclosure policy with all real-life details. If any person discloses any real-life details of any Citizen (real name, occupation, age, gender, email addresses, etc) without prior permission, they will be banned. Even if you yourself are casual with your real-life info, please respect this agreement to safeguard the privacy of all of us.

XII Finance
Renters of property in Subura, Ostia, Maritima, Insula, and Atalante will be bound by the rental agreements for those properties.

No begging. Most activities in ROMA are free. Visitors should not pester others for handouts.

Ave Caesar!
