ROMA Tours The best way to learn all ROMA has to offer is to take a series of tours. These have been prepared by ROMA Citizens to give a new visitor an overview of life in the estate. The text of these tours are available here online (with pictures) by clicking on the scrolls below, or inside SL as a notecard available in the ROMA Customs House and ROMA Urbs area.
ROMA Transit Because it is so expansive, ROMA has its own transit system. There are a variety of ways to move around the eight sims.
Transit Areas
There are several transit areas in the ROMA Estate. They house six different kinds of transit available to all visitors: Traveling Litters, Horses, Automatic Chariots, Drivable Chariots, Ferries, and Sailboats. Each is explained in more detail below.
Traveling Litters Locations: Harbor District, Plaza District, Shopping District, Arena District, Lupanar District, Gardens of Maecenas District, Hippodrome Point District, Forum District, Theater of Dionysus District, Temple of Apollo District (all ROMA)
The ROMA sim is divided into ten districts. Each one has a public fountain in it which is watched over by a deity.
If you touch the surface of the water in the fountain, a traveling litter will be summoned. Touch the litter itself to select the district you want to travel to. Then just hop on and instantly you’ll be carried there. It is a good timesaver for visiting ROMA.
As an added bonus, each deity has set a special item at their fountain which you can take. Collect them all!
Harbor District: Neptune's Pitcher
Plaza District:Vesta's Blessing Bowl
Shopping District: Mercury's Money Pouch
Arena District:Shield of Mars
Lupanar District:Gem of Venus
Gardens of Maecenas District:Egeria's Rose Water
Hippodrome Point District:Roman Toy Horse
Forum District:Jupiter's Celestial Orb
Theater of Dionysus District:Dionysus' Ever Full Wine Amphora
Temple of Apollo District: Apollo's Sun Crown
Please note that the litter system will only work in the ROMA sim.
Free Horses Locations: Plaza District (ROMA), Lupanar District (ROMA), Ostia (ROMA Transtiberim)
Four types of free horses are available in ROMA. You can hop on one and gallop all around the estate.
Horse rezzers are available in the Plaza and the Lupanar District stalls in ROMA, and at Ostia in ROMA Transtiberim.
To get your own horse, use the blue and pink arrows to select which color you want. Then touch the golden coin with the picture of your horse on it. A saddle will rez in front of the large coin. Hop on the saddle and it will give you your own copy of the horse. As soon as you ‘attach’ your new horse from your inventory, it will appear under the saddle and you will be able to ride!
Please note that if you stand up from the saddle or detach your horse, you will revert to walking.
Automatic Chariots Locations: Plaza District (ROMA), Ostia (ROMA Transtiberim)
ROMA Has several automatic chariots that allow you to hop on and have a relaxing ride through the estate. You can use them as taxis, simply hopping off when you get to your destination. All leave from the chariot stalls. If an automatic chariot is not waiting, simply touch its sign and it will be summoned. All chariots take two passengers.
There are three automatic chariot lines:
The first is caught right outside the Pompeii Tavern in ROMA’s Plaza District. The “Subura Loop” (red chariots) makes a clockwise circuit around ROMA Subura, the residential sim in the estate. It passes many of the houses of ROMA’s leading citizens, coming to a stop outside the Subura Comitium in Julian Plaza.
The second line, also leaving from beside the Pompeii Tavern, is the “Ostia Express” (blue chariots). These chariots wind their way through ROMA’s streets, up to the Forum, through the Capitoline tunnel connecting ROMA and ROMA Transtiberim, then through the woods and countryside beyond the Tiber River. They end at the gates of the Ostia Settlement in ROMA Transtiberim.
The third line is the “Roma Express” which leaves from Ostia and takes a route to ROMA circumnavigating Lake Trasimenus, passing down the Street of the Tombs, and through the Forum to the Plaza.
Drivable Chariots Location: Plaza District (ROMA)
In the ROMA Plaza, you can board a black chariot that you can drive yourself! Now you can arrive in style when meeting your friends.
Climb on the black drivable chariot (if there is not one waiting in the Chariot Stall, touch the drivable chariot sign and one will appear for you). The chariot will then give you horses you must attach to yourself and a whip (which you can attach if you wish). Once the horses are in place, the chariot will turn controls over to you and you can drive to any part of the ROMA Estate.
When you have arrived at your destination, stand up or detach the horses and the chariot will disappear. The horses will remain in your inventory, ready for your next chariot ride. To get another chariot, just return to the Chariot Stall in the Plaza.
ROMA Ferries Locations: Harbor District (ROMA), Ostia (ROMA Transtiberim)
Ferries leave from the ferry dock in the ROMA Harbor and the Ostia Harbor. Each craft can carry up to three Citizens at once.
When the first person boards a ferry, they can choose the route they wish to take. From the ROMA Harbor, the ferry will make its way to Ostia in the ROMA Transtiberim sim by sailing down the Tiber River. The route can be direct, leisurely, or speedy. (The leisurely route makes an extra scenic circle around the Fort Legio VII Augusta).
The path from the ROMA Harbor passes through a large underground cavern and along the rural banks of the Tiber. It is best not to hop off before the ferry docks or you might end up at the bottom of the river.
Another ferry makes the return trip from Ostia to the ROMA Harbor.
A third ferry leaves from Ostia and takes passengers to the harbor on the western side of the ROMA Transtiberim sim.
ROMA Sailboats Locations: Harbor District (ROMA), Lake Trasimenus (ROMA Transtiberim), Boat Docks (ROMA Maritima), Docks (ROMA Atalante)
Neptune offers free sailboats, allowing all Citizens to explore ROMA’s waterways. It is possible to sail between all of ROMA’s sims via the Tiber River, the Subura canal, and the Maritima sea.
To summon a sailboat, touch one of the Neptune kiosks. Only one boat can be summoned at a time, and they will disappear when the passenger stands.
The person who will drive the boat should sit on the darker colored seat first before any passengers board.
Pausanias' Lost Description of ROMA Major buildings in the ROMA Estate have bright red ‘info’ buttons on their facades. Touching one will give you a parchment containing a segment of a lost work of the ancient geographer Pausanias. Each will explain something about the original building the virtual building was based on or some other aspect of ancient Roman culture.
You can visit the Pausanias page here on romacitizens.com and not only read each entry, but also see a breakdown of every single attraction in the estate.
